History of KrasSMU

Monographs were written about scientists of KSMU, their scientific schools, new methods of treatment which were patented at Russian and international levels and successfully used in Krasnoyarsk hospitals; doctoral and candidate dissertations were also defended. During the last 5 years 62 Doctors of Science appeared and 196 candidate dissertations were defended in our University. At present 123 Doctors of Medicine, associate professors, junior teachers are working at the University. More than 78 percent of the teaching staff have a scientific degree.

At the University there are doctoral and candidate scientific councils, full-time and correspondence postgraduate course in 37 scientific specialties, residency, internship. It is here - in KMU you may get not only doctor's profession, but the second economic education in "Economics and management of public health".

In our university there is an Advanced Medical faculty, and a retraining course, where doctors from all Krasnoyarsk regions can refresh their skills. Annually theoretical and scientific conference is held at the university. The 1st-6th year students defend their works submitting them for public consideration and criticism preparing themselves for scientific and pedagogical activity.

KrasSMU constantly develops, for the last 5 years eight new departments were opened, the Morphological Center, the laboratory of anthropology, the Institute of Nutrition, the interdepartmental biochemical research laboratory, new interesting joint projects of the international level are implemented with Siberian Federal University and other Universities of Krasnoyarsk territory, Russia, Japan, France, Italy, Germany and other countries.

During all history of its existence, our university has given perspectives for more than 30.000 specialists: therapeutists, pediatricians, stomatologists, managers and organizers of practical public health. However, even those people who left medicine remain the pride of KrasSMU.

Among our graduates - there are such talented poets and writers as L.Taran, N.Eryomin, E.Rusakov, O.Korabel'nikov, G.Arutyunyan etc.

In 2003 The Certification committee gave a high estimation in all professional areas.

KrasSMU is a leading high educational institution not only in Siberia and the Far East but in Russia (It takes the 17th place among 47 medical institutes of the Russian Federation and the 3d place among medical institutes in Siberia and the Far East).

About 2500 doctors in "Therapeutics", "Pediatrics", "Stomatology", "Nursing" and "Pharmacy" were prepared by the teaching staff only for the last 5 years.

The correspondence education is more preferable at the nursing department, there 704 from 558 students study by correspondence. By the way, 5 years ago there wasn't such a form of education in KrasSMU. In KrasSMU target training of students is widely introduced - in 2004 it was almost a half of admission (170 first-year students).

Nowadays in KrasSMU there are about 800 students of the target training in all faculties. After graduation from the University and internship they will come back home, according to the treaty that was made between therapeuticale preventive institutions of Krasnoyarsk territory and its regions.

It should be mentioned, that KrasSMU starts working with their future contract students and all other applicants as well long before taking entrance exams. On the 21st of November KrasSMU celebrates "University Day", where all work is summed up and the best workers and departments are awarded by the results of rating.

The Academic staff of KrasSMU strives to maintain and improve health and culture of Siberia through teaching and moral training of medical specialists - the real professionals who can work with the latest scientific achievements, according to ethics and humanism principles, corporative culture of our University and public health.
