"The history of Krasnoyarsk State Medical University named after Professor V.F. Voyno-Yasenetsky originates in the severe years of the Great Patriotic War. Our University knew many examples of labour exploits and self-sacrifice in those times, when such outstanding organizers of public health service, as N.I. Ozeretsky, P.G. Podzolkov, B.S. Grakov, V.I. Prokhorenkov were at the head. We'll always remember, that a great Russian surgeon V.F. Voyno-Yasenetsky, who was canonized not so long ago, delivered his lectures to the future doctors just in our University. Now the University bears his name with pride.

Since its foundation the University has prepared more than 35 thousand specialists of different profiles for medical institutions of Siberia and the Far East, and has strongly taken the leading position among medical Universities in our country.

Nowadays more than 4 thousand students are trained at 6 faculties of the University, and hundreds of medical workers from all over Krasnoyarsk krai, from republics of Khakassia, Tyva and Yakytia, Evenkyisky and Taymyrsky autonomous regions improve their medical qualification at the Institute of Postgraduate Education.

During existence of the University we not only have mastered the Russian market, but also actively cooperate with experts from Japan, USA, Germany, Australia, France. And we are not going to stop it, because international cooperation gives us a key to success in preparation of experts and to rendering medical help to the population.

We will also develop the traditions, arisen by our predecessors, so that learning at the University would be prestigious and profitable, so that “The Siberian Mark of Quality” in preparation of medical experts would be rated highly in the world".

Krasnoyarsk State Medical University exists since the 21st of November 1942, when according to the Order of All-union Committee on affairs of the High School at the Soviet People's Commissariat of the USSR and the People's Commissariat of the Public Health Service Voronezh Stomatologic Institute, parts from the first and second Leningrad Medical Institutes, Leningrad Pediatric and Leningrad Stomatologic Institutes evacuated to Krasnoyarsk have been united into Krasnoyarsk Medical Institute.

Professor N.I. Ozeretsky became the first rector. Then the University was headed by Professors P.G. Podzolkov (1945-1978), B.S. Grakov (1979-1994), V.I. Prokhorenkov (1994-2004). Nowadays Professor, Doctor of Medical Science, Ivan Pavlovich Artyukhov heads the University.

From the moment of its foundation there were people with world names among lecturers of the University. Thus, prelate, surgeon and Professor V.F. Voyno-Yasenetsky was not only an archbishop of the Krasnoyarsk diocese in the years of the Great Patriotic War but he also taught the first students of our University, at the same time remaining the main consultant of all Krasnoyarsk evacuated hospitals. There he collected the materials from practice of treating wounded people; there he finished his famous monograph “The Sketches of Purulent Surgery”, which was awarded the Stalin's Prize in 1944. This unique textbook is very important and asked-for by surgeons nowadays.

And now Krasnoyarsk surgical school is known all over the world. Thus, well-known professor A.M. Dyhno was head of the faculty of hospital surgery in 1951-1957 and he educated many talented disciples: N. Dralyuk, A. Kokorina, V. Krasovskaya, M. Arkhipenko, A. Orlov and many others whose names are included in the World Medical Encyclopedia. The name of a founder of Krasnoyarsk Pediatric School Professor Zh.Zh. Rapoport is called among 500 the most famous physicians of the 20th century.

M.G. Dralyuk became the winner of the First National Prize “Recognition” in nomination “For Carrying Out the Unique Operation, which Rescued Life of the Patient”; he was awarded with the Golden Scalpel “To the Best Surgeon of Russia”. Krasnoyarsk orthopedists were recognized the best in Russia among four finalists in nomination “For Creating the New Method of Treatment”. The heads of the Department of Traumatology, Orthopaedics and Field Surgery Professors V.N. Shubkin, A.A. Laka, R.R. Gitiatulin, V.S. Lapinskaya were marked for creating a unique instrument for treatment of S-shaped scoliosis in children.

The University includes the Institute of Postgraduate Education where doctors take refresher courses from all over the region. Every year the University holds students' scientific conference where students from the 1st up to the 6th courses present their works for public review, preparing for scientific-pedagogical and practical activity.

KrasSMU is constantly developing. Thus, during the last five years eight new faculties, Morphological Centre, the Laboratory of Anthropology, the Institute of Nutrition, Interdepartmental Biochemical Research Laboratory, Linguistic Centre were founded; new interesting joint projects of international level are realized together with SFU (the Siberian Federal University) and with other universities of Krasnoyarsk territory, Russia, Japan, France, Italy, German and other countries.

Our University has given a start in life to more than 30 thousand specialists -therapists, pediatricians, stomatologists, managers and organizers of healthcare. Even those of them, who left medicine remain the pride of the University. Among the graduates there are talented poets and writers: L. Taran, N. Eryomin, E. Rusakov, O. Korabelnikov, G. Arutyunyan and others.

In 2008 the State Certifying Committee appreciated all trends of work of KrasSMU. According to this appreciation the Academy changed its status for the University.>/p>

Today KrasSMU is a leading higher medical school in Siberia and in the Far East, and one of the leading high medical schools of Russia (it holds the 10th place among 47 medical Universities of the Russian Federation and the second place - among medical Universities of Siberia and the Far East). On the 21st of November KrasSMU celebrates “The Day of the University”. This day the work is summed up and according to the results of rating the best students, members of the staff and faculties are awarded. Krasnoyarsk State Medical University is impetuously developing, having a great potential and using uncontestable experience of several generations of doctors.

Hippocrates - studying at the University you will hear this name again and again at different faculties. In the past people thought that diseases are sent by wicked spirits or by magic. Hippocrates was the first man who put medicine on the scientific foundation.

Valentine Voyno-Yasenetsky is a famous surgeon (author of essays on purulent surgery which are used by doctors in their practice all over the world nowadays) and an archbishop. Since 2006 our University has been bearing his name.

Gaudeamus, the hymn of students.

“Gaudeamus” - an ancient students' song of an unknown author. Its present name - “De brevitate vitae” (“On Rapidity of Life”), and in the first half of the 18th century it was a university song in Germany.

Later on, though little is spoken on the academic themes, many universities of Europe and the world began to use it as their hymn on great celebrations.

The original song is in Latin, and as it is known, it is considered to be the language of all doctors of the world, that's why we suggest you to begin learning elements of this complex and beautiful language right now - with the hymn of all students:
